Red is for Love

Two more days before the I’m Shoe in Love Bazaar this June 25-26 and we are going to paint the town RED! Try our new mochi ice cream flavors! In keeping with the red theme, we’re making Red Velvet and Cream Cheese mochi ice cream! Since most people can’t describe what red velvet really tastes like, I will just leave it to your palate to decipher what a red velvet and cream cheese ice cream would taste like.

I’m also so thrilled about how our Rocky Road mochi ice cream turned out.  My youngest daughter, Sam, kept swooning, “Ma! I’m in heaven! I’m in heaven!” And we were just tempted to call this flavor “I’m in Heaven!” because she wouldn’t stop saying it. It has the right amount of crunch from the toasted peanuts combined with mini marshmallows and our chocolate sauce, it’s divine. With all the mix-ins together with our Valrhona milk chocolate, I really recommend it! I usually prefer dark chocolate but this is heavenly with the abundance of crunchy toasted peanuts.

It’s kind of a toss up with the Banoffee mochi ice cream. My husband tried it and said it tastes like banana split that I should name it banana split instead of banoffee! And do I love banana split! Do you even order any sundae in the ice cream menu other than banana split? You share it and pretend to offer the other half of the banana but really, isn’t the banana the main reason why you ordered it in the first place. Well, our Banoffee (aka “banana split”)  ice cream is made from fresh fruit and this recipe I made uses less sugar to make use of the sweetness and flavor from Cavendish bananas. It’s got swirls of chocolate caramel and you’d think you were really eating banana split! Hmmm, maybe I should rename it…

Oh, since we’re getting into more chocolate-y flavors, my friend Tippi, who is a fellow baker, introduced me on CFT or Certified Free Trade chocolates. Two years ago, she had just returned from San Francisco and we spent an entire Christmas season baking and selling our cookies till we dropped. We had to turn down some other orders or we would have spent our Xmas eve baking cookies and packing them. We share a certain bond for baking, crafts and design, Tippi, being an interior designer. She also educated me of the Fair Trade business which was to make sure that the chocolate we buy are manufactured without the use of child labor or slavery in the cocoa farms, and that the chocolate makers give fair wages and have good business practices. I immediately did a check on the Internet and was relieved that our Valrhona and Callebaut chocolates were Fair trade certified. Next time we buy chocolates, we can do our share by supporting products that are CFT, or at least be conscious of it…

So back to our 2nd bazaar… you will be seeing Red… lots of them… red velvet cookies with cream cheese frosting, red velvet cupcakes, red velvet mochi ice cream and many more of our specialty cupcakes, such as chocolate creme brulee cupcakes, chocolate chip cookie dough, tres leches cupcakes with strawberry topping, and dulce de leche chocolate cupcakes with chocolate ganache frosting!

Please do drop by and stop by our booth! You won’t miss it icon wink Red is for Love

XOXO

Bloggers United Bazaar

We did the inevitable and finally joined a bazaar! Though we have always been encouraged by our customers to join bazaars, we wanted to make sure that when we did join, we would make an impact, specially since there are so many talented bakers around. When Sophie insisted that we join the Bloggers United Bazaar, an interactive shopping affair strictly by fashion bloggers, I thought this will be the perfect venue, having gone to fashion design school myself. It would definitely allow me to showcase my own signature design style while doing what I love most, which is creating and baking.

Since this was supposed to be a fashion bazaar, it absolutely needed to be fashion-related and so selling our mochi, cookies and cupcakes had to have some artistic flair. Our house is like a prop house, filled with a lot of knick-knacks and collections and so I rummaged my armoire and china hutch to find some fashion related items. I found my black and white cake plates with shoe and bag designs and grabbed my small mannequin body form in black and white. Right then, I knew it had to be a black and white theme. I checked my own stash of scrapbook collection and found my pink and black Paris theme and voila, the French fashion theme was set.

It was all worth it when our booth came out to be a mini French dessert buffet and Fashion was definitely the central theme.

We decided to make fondant bags in keeping with the fashion theme and decided to use the Bloggers United logo for both the bags and the sugar cookies.

Our cookie selection was made to cater to all sorts of cookie lovers, which included chocolate truffle cookies, red velvet cookies with cream cheese frosting, honey roasted peanut butter cookies (my new favorite!), and dark cherry cookies with pineapple and pecans for those with more discerning tastebuds. For Oreo lovers, we made our Stookies (or Stuffed Cookies) which was Oreo stuffed chocolate chip cookies. Yes, we also had Golden Oreo stuffed chocolate chip cookies!

We made our bestselling red velvet cupcakes, dulce de leche chocolate cupcakes and our new chocolate chip cookie dough cupcakes with brown butter frosting.

Our sincerest appreciation to those who supported our booth and to all those who “liked” our Fan Page,to all the bloggers out there who featured us. They were all there and it was such a pleasure meeting all of them! Check out the photo album of your favorite fashion bloggers which you can read at our Fan page! Many thanks to Ana Gonzales, Melai Etuna and Aisa Ipac for this great gathering!
